David Cameron’s drive to present a different face to the public continues with the announcement that the Conservatives are to give every voter in London the chance to select the Party’s candidate for Mayor.
It’s a clever move which, if promoted properly, should help the candidate raise their profile ahead of the official campaign period and it’ll be interesting to see how the LibDems respond.
Personally I’d like to see one of the Tory AMs win the nomination – the London Assembly should be the natural recruiting ground for Mayoral candidates, the LibDems and Tories really should consider following the example set by the Greens and put forward candidates who have served on the Assembly.
