During last year’s Mayoral election Mr Khan wrote about the sacrifices some Londoners are forced to make when the cost of a Travelcard goes up.
It did not take Sadiq Khan long to start breaking promises once he had been elected as Mayor. One of the first and most disappointing was his failure to live up to his pre-election pledge that Londoners “won’t pay a penny more in 2020 than you do now.”
The information, which has taken three costly Freedom of Information requests to obtain has been lurking in Transport for London for 8 months – did it really never get as far as City Hall?
The freeze was a major part of Mr Khan’s election manifesto and was popular with many Londoners who’d seen the cost of travel rise each year under his predecessor, Boris Johnson.
There’s been a very important and welcome development in the ongoing efforts to secure publication of whatever advice TfL provided to Sadiq Khan so that he knew his fares freeze was affordable and deliverable.
