Watchdog: Renew season tickets before fares hike

December 22, 2008 by Martin Hoscik

London’s passenger watchdog, London TravelWatch, has advised passengers in the capital to renew their season tickets before next month’s fare increase comes into effect on January 2nd.

Sharon Grant, Chair, London TravelWatch, said: “Fare rises are never welcomed by passengers, particularly in the current climate, so we urge commuters to try to renew their annual tickets before Friday 2 January when the new fares are introduced. We also strongly advise all passengers to claim any discounts they are entitled to, and to check that the ticket they buy currently is the best value for them: things are unusually complicated this year.”

Fares across travel services are set to rise next month after Mayor Boris Johnson announced an above inflation package of increases.

January 2nd will also see Freedom Pass holders able to travel for free 24 hours a day.
