Union announces new strike in Night Tube dispute

July 13, 2015 - Martin Hoscik

tube_roundel_950Tube union Aslef says members will hold a 24 hour strike on August 5th as part of the ongoing dispute about pay and conditions for staff working on the new Night Tube service.

Aslef, along with the leaderships of the RMT and TSSA unions, say the imposition of night shifts will adversely impact the work-life balance of their members, however Tube bosses claim the hiring of 137 new drivers for the night service means existing staff are only being asked to work “a few extra nights per year”.

Last week the three unions rejected an offer from London Underground to pay all staff a £500 bonus, a 2% rise plus a £2,000 one-off bonus for drivers on the five lines running night services, and went ahead with a 24 hour strike which forced the closure of the entire Tube network, causing widespread disruption to businesses and workers.

ASLEF says the new strike will start from 21:30 BST on August 5th and last 24 hours.
