October 31, 2008 - Staff

Underground maintenance contractor Tube Lines has completed an extensive overhaul of passenger information systems on the Northern Line’s West Finchley station.

The work includes installation of a new customer information system and a new public address system for the ticket halls and on platforms. Work has also seen an increase in the number of CCTV cameras from 6 to 24, the installation of seven new help points and extensive decoration with in the ticket hall and platforms.

Tube Lines chiefs say the work will ensure greater clarity of information for passengers and improve security at the station. The majority of the work took place in the few hours during the night when the station was closed to the public.

John Auguste, Tube Lines Project Manger for the upgrade of West Finchley station promised that “incomprehensible announcements along with run down interiors are now a thing of the past for those using West Finchley station.”

“We recognise that commuters want information quickly and clearly. We also know they want an environment that is clean, safe and efficient and this is what passengers now benefit from at this station. This station upgrade is just part of a massive programme of upgrades going on across the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines.”
