Tube drivers to strike this weekend

March 2, 2015 - Martin Hoscik@martinhoscik

empty_tube_front_900_2London Underground drivers are to strike this weekend over the sacking of a colleague for failing a breath test.

The RMT union claims the type of test used failed to account for people with diabetes, but Tube bosses say the driver was sacked for failing two breath tests which were unaffected by the condition.

Last month union members voted to strike in support of colleague and today the RMT announced that a walk-out would be held from 21:30 GMT on Saturday March 7th to 03:59 on Sunday March 8th.

Strike action was backed by 299 of those voting, with 221 voting against. The union says turnout was 42%.

  1. ASLEF shrugged says

    March 2, 2015 at 10:51 am

Rather than a mass “walk out” on Saturday evening RMT has asked train drivers not to book on for work between 21:30 and 3:59, station staff and others are not included so the only people affected will be the tiny number of night duties (the Central Line has six). As over two thirds of drivers are with ASLEF this strike will probably pass without anyone even noticing
