TravelWatch calls for South Eastern franchise changes

The capital’s passenger watchdog has called for the Mayor and Transport for London to gain control of South Eastern rail services operating in London.

In its response to the Department for Transport’s consultation on the South Eastern franchise, London TravelWatch says all metro services from Dartford, Swanley and Sevenoaks into central London should be handed to TfL.

TfL already operates London Overground, one the UK’s most reliable and punctual rail services and has expressed interest in extending the Overground experience to passengers on routes currently franchised by national Government.

Mayor Boris Johnson and the London Assembly have already set out their case for further rail devolution to the capital.

Johnson says giving TfL greater control of rail services would save money and drive up standards.

Assembly Members say devolving the routes to TfL would result in better services, less bureaucracy and end passenger confusion around fares.
