Transport Museum depot open day & symposium

Tickets are now on sale for the latest London Transport Museum depot open weekend which will take place on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October 2012.

The Depot is home to the Museum’s collection of over 400,000 objects, consisting of historical road and rail vehicles, thousands of posters and artworks, engineering drawings, signs and ephemera.

Highlights of the weekend include the chance to take a taxi test drive, a curator-led tour of the Depot’s small object store and a display of taxis courtesy of the London Vintage Taxi Association.

The Depot will also mark the 60th anniversary of the withdrawal of the tram with a short talk and guided tour of its tram collection with London Transport Museum Friends.

Tickets are valid on both days and cost £10.00 for adults, £8.00 for senior citizens, £6.50 concessions. Accompanied children under 16 go free. Book in advance by calling 020 7565 7298 or online at www.ltmuseum.co.uk.

The museum is also hosting a full day symposium on maps in contemporary art with presentations and discussions from artists featured in its current exhibition Mind the Map: inspiring art, design and cartography.

The symposium will be held on Saturday 29 September. Tickets cost £30.00 (£25.00 concessions) and include lunch, refreshments and a tour of the Mind the Map exhibition.
