Traffic Free Day for London’s West End

Oxford and Regent Streets will be closed to traffic for a day in December under plans announced by the Mayor and Transport for London.

December 2nd will see all non-pedestrian traffic banned from the streets as part of the Very Important Pedestrians initiative which will include a “a day of entertainment and shopping”.

Announcing the plans Mayor Livingstone said the West End was “the world’s greatest shopping destination – it is a magnet for visitors from outside the capital and abroad.”

The street closures are being organised by Transport for London, and events will be staged by the New West End Company and retailers supported by the Mayor of London.
