Tory Phone Vote Primary Opens

July 28, 2007 by Staff

Londoners can now have their say in the selection of a Conservative Mayoral candidate, by registering with the Party via a premium rate line – 0906 555 5050 – costing £1.00p per minute from a BT Landline. A typical call is expected to cost £1.50.

Conservative Party members will automatically be registered to take part in the ballot.

Conservative Party Chairman Caroline Spelman described the phone vote as “a unique way for people to get involved in deciding who will represent the Conservative Party in next May’s elections.”

“For the first time a political party is holding an open primary allowing all of Londoners to have a say in who will challenge Ken Livingstone to be Mayor of London.”

The line – which launches at 2pm on Thursday July 26 – will be open Monday to Friday, 8am-9pm, Saturday, 9am-5pm and Sunday, 10am-4pm. Last date for registering is September 20, and the ballot will close on September 26.

The four contenders are:

Victoria Borwick – www.mayor-for-london.co.uk
Boris Johnson – www.backboris.com
Warwick Lightfoot – www.lightfootforlondon.com
