Passengers who pay for their journeys by contactless debit and credit card are being urged to sign up for a free Transport for London account so that they can monitor their journey and payment history.

Customers with an account can already check their usage via the TfL website and the agency is preparing to update its existing Oyster app to allow those with contactless cards to check their journey history via their smartphone.

Ahead of the update, TfL is urging all contactless users without an account to sign up at contactless.tfl.gov.uk and get ‘app-ready’. They can then personalise their account so that it’s easier to see the card in the app once the update is live.‎

The free TfL app can be downloaded by searching ‘TfL Oyster’ in either the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

TfL is considering further updates to the app, including the ability add a contactless card within it and better handling of Oyster refunds so customers can apply for them more quickly and easily.

It’s also working to make all functions of the app, including being able to buy season tickets, available to concessions such as Zip photocards and Student photocards.
