London’s New Year’s Eve free travel is to be sponsored this year by ING Direct.

The sponsorship deal was announced today as the capital’s transport chiefs issued travel information for the festive period and advised passengers that public transport “will without doubt be the best way to travel” after welcoming in the New Year.

Passengers are advised to check for any changes to their usual services and a new travel guide detailing the availability of Transport for London services as well as the operation of the Congestion Charge over the festive period can be downloaded from the TfL website.

As in past years there will be free travel on the Tube, DLR, buses and trams on New Year’s Eve. This year the service is being sponsored by ING Direct.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson said: “Countless celebrations will take place all across the city, with many thousands of Londoners and visitors making the most of our unrivalled selection of bars, restaurants and hotels.

‘Unless you’re going by bike, public transport will without doubt be the best way to travel. There will be services across London throughout the night and, because we want everyone to be able to get home safely, we are making travel free.”

Up to the date travel information for the Christmas period is available on the TfL website or by from the London Travel Information 24-hour telephone helpline on 020 7222 1234.
