London’s transport chiefs will be taking advantage of the Christmas Day shutdown to carry out maintenance works and test new trains and signalling systems.

With no services running on the Tube, London Buses, DLR, London Overground and Tramlink network, Transport for London says Christmas Day is the “perfect time” to carryout routine maintenance.

Howard Collins, Chief Operating Officer for London Underground said: “Londoners shouldn’t be surprised if they hear trains going past on Christmas Day as we’ll be making the most of the one day a year we’re closed to passengers. Our staff will be working around the clock to continue to make improvements to London’s transport network.”

Passengers travelling over the festive period are advised to check for service changes before they travel. Information is available from the TfL website and from TfL’s 24 hour travel information telephone helpline: 020 7222 1234
