Transport for London yesterday continued to put pressure on First Capital Connect over their new fares policy which restricts the use of cheap day return tickets on northbound peak services.
The new policy was attacked by the Mayor earlier this month as being “just a cynical revenue raising exercise designed to maximise profits.”
Yesterday Ian Brown, Managing Director of TfL London Rail, further criticised the company saying “First Capital Connect’s new fares policy is now having a major impact on passengers using GNER and Midland Mainline services, with cost increases of over 100 per cent in some instances.”
Brown said TfL was concerned the new fares regime “could deter people from using rail services between London and other key towns and cities” and called for the restrictions to be “removed as a matter of urgency, allowing flexible ‘Cheap Day Return’ tickets to be restored on all services so that passengers can travel home from London at any time in the evening.”
