TfL Attacks Queensway Delays

June 12, 2006 by Staff

Transport for London has announced that the opening of Queensway tube station would be delayed until Wednesday 14 June at the “earliest”.

According to a statement issued by TfL Metronet, the company responsible for the work, “did not complete the modernisation and lift replacement works by the original contract completion date of 9 May 2006 or a second deadline of Monday 12 June, as promised.”

Tim O’Toole, London Underground Managing Director, said: “This is a further, and one hopes final, pathetic delay on a project that Metronet has failed to manage to time.”

However a Metronet spokesperson said: “While the delays to opening Queensway Station are regrettable, we have delivered a very complicated project to a very high standard. In addition to the new lifts, regular passengers can now enjoy a lighter, brighter and safer station.”
