Summer fun comes to Trafalgar Square

August 17, 2009 by Staff

traf_sqDeckchairs, magic and street performances are set to liven up Trafalgar Square as a new programme of free summer fun gets underway this week.

Organised by the Mayor of London, One Magic Summer is being touted as a chance to “re-live the classic British summer holiday experience” from the heart of the capital.

Starting Thursday (20th August) visitors to the Square can enjoy a live performances of comedy, street theatre and magic tricks.

London Mayor Boris Johnson said: ‘With many people choosing a staycation this year, Trafalgar Square is the ideal place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy our summer in a traditionally British style.”

“With deckchairs and quirky performers, this is the best of our holidays seen through the prism of childhood recollections; a trip to the beach, a weekend expedition in the camper van, a ramble in the countryside – and a few mystifying magic tricks. But above all it’s about celebrating the idiosyncrasy that is our great sense of humour.’

Performances are on 12pm-2pm and 5pm-7pm, each Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, plus Bank Holiday Monday.
