Southern trains has announced further changes to its schedule as it seems to improves services into and out of London Bridge after inflicting weeks of poor reliability on passengers.
The company has faced growing criticism from passengers and politicians after services were disrupted following introduction of a new timetable needed to facilitate the London Bridge station rebuild.
Its bosses have repeatedly apologised for their failings and last week announced schedule changes which they claimed would “help us deliver an improved service”.
However while these have delivered “some improvement to performance,” passengers continue to face delayed trains and disruption, prompting Southern to make further changes which will come into effect from Monday, 26th January 2015.
Separately Mayor Boris Johnson is facing calls to hold rail operators and Network Rail to account for the recent delays and disruption.
Although the services aren’t regulated by Transport for London or City Hall, London Assembly Member Darren Johnson is calling on the Mayor to intervene and ensure the firms explain their failures.
Assembly Member Johnson said: “Nobody is denying that the London Bridge station rebuild is a hugely complex project. However, passengers continue to pay high fares and rightly expect a satisfactory service to match.”
“We have seen standards drop well below an acceptable level in recent weeks with overcrowding, a lack of electronic departure boards and delayed and cancelled trains pushing commuters to despair.
“I am therefore calling on the Mayor to hold train operators to account for the shambles we have seen at this station since Christmas.”
