A commitment from the Mayor to install ‘no smoking’ signs at almost 10,000 bus shelters across London has been welcomed by Liberal Democrats on the London Assembly.

Signs are already in place at 2,700 shelters but Boris Johnson has now instructed Transport for London to fit them at the remaining 9,800 by the end of April.

Caroline Pidgeon, the Liberal Democrat leader at City Hall, said: “Whatever one thinks about smoking no one, and especially children, should be forced to inhale cigarette smoke simply because they are waiting for a bus.

“This long overdue decision to make all of London’s bus shelters no smoking is good news for the lungs of London’s children.”
