Met Police boss Sir Ian Blair has ordered an enquiry into reports that a Muslim officer was granted a release from his duties guarding the Israeli embassy in London.
According to The Sun newspaper the officer, who is a member of Scotland Yard’s Diplomatic Protection Group, asked to be moved from his duties during this summer’s conflict between Israel and Lebanon.
The Association of Muslim Police Officers claimed the request was not related to the officer’s political or religious views but was “an issue around the welfare of a particular officer.”
The officer is reported to be “happy” to return to duties now the conflict has been resolved.
