Sadiq responds to Uber’s email campaign – commits to maintaining “two-tier system” between Taxis and mini cabs

September 23, 2016 - Martin Hoscik@MayorWatch

sadiq_val_1200Sadiq Khan has responded to an Uber email campaign urging passengers to contact him about his recently published Taxi and Private Hire Action Plan.

The firm had accused the Mayor of discriminating in favour of the black cab trade and, while it backed some of the reforms, has publicly opposed the requirement for all new mini cab drivers to sit a written English exam.

Other changes include new rules on insurance and the deployment of extra enforcement officers to ensure both Taxi and mini cabs are complying with regulations.

In his response Mr Khan said the reforms were good for passengers and restated his committed to “maintain and reinforce the two-tier system between taxis and private hire services”.
