Sadiq Khan confirms night time London Overground route will start this December

July 3, 2017 - Martin Hoscik@MayorWatch

London Overground passengers travelling between New Cross Gate and Dalston Junction will soon gain a new weekend night time service, Mayor Sadiq Khan announced today.

The service will start operating from December on Fridays and Saturdays, mirroring arrangements for the Night Tube, before being extended to Highbury & Islington next year.

City Hall say the Night Tube has already seen more than 6.5m journeys made since it began last year and that the extended Overground service will support plans to boost the local economy and create more jobs.

Mayor Sadiq Khan, said: “Our Night Tube services have been a real success right across the capital, so I’m delighted to announce that we’ll be bringing the Night Overground to the East London line later this year.”

Jonathan Fox, TfL’s Director of London Rail, added: “The East London route is one of the most popular parts of the London Overground network, particularly late in the evening.

“Expanding night services to this key part of London Overground will make it easier for customers to enjoy the vibrant night time culture that East London has to offer, supporting the economy in this much-loved area of the capital.”
