Rise 2008 Line-up Confirmed

June 17, 2008 by Staff

The line-up for the 2008 Rise Festival has been announced but Mayor of London Boris Johnson has been accused of seeking to downplay the event’s anti-racist message.

Today’s Guardian quotes a Mayoral spokesperson as saying “Boris has made a commitment to go ahead with the Rise festival this year but wants to emphasise its cultural and community dimensions.”

The press release issued by the Mayor’s office for the event describes it as “a free event celebrating diversity”

Confirmed acts for the event which takes place in Finsbury Park on Sunday 13 July include CSS, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings and reggae legend Jimmy Cliff.
