Review of BBC Parliament announced

May 25, 2011 by Staff

The BBC Trust is reviewing the News and Parliament channels
The BBC Trust has announced a review of the corporation’s Parliament channel which broadcasts live and recorded coverage of the UK’s political bodies including the Mayor’s appearances before the London Assembly.

The BBC News Channel is also being reviewed by the Trust which will look into the BBC’s “future plans for the services.”

Patricia Hodgson, BBC Trustee, who is leading the review for the Trust said:

“News is at the very core of the BBC’s public service mission, and the BBC plays an integral role in fostering informed democratic debate in the UK.

“Over nine million viewers watch the News Channel’s up-to-the minute coverage of local, UK and international events, every week; a further million tune into BBC Parliament. That means there are a lot of people out there with views on these channels, and we want to hear what they think.”

Viewers and other interested parties are being invited to take part in an online consultation as part of the review. The deadline for responses is July 19th.
