Cash machine network operator LINK and Crimestoppers have announced rewards of up to £25,000 for information relating to cash machine crime and are calling on the public to come forward with and report anything they know.
According to official figures, more than 630 attacks on machines took place in 2008, a increase of 17% on the previous year.
LINK spokesman Graham Mott commented: “even something that may sound insignificant could be part of a bigger picture and prove invaluable in convicting someone involved in cash machine crime.”
The two organisations work closely with different police departments including the Dedicated Cheque and Plastic Crime Unit, a banking industry-sponsored police unit. The unit’s head, DCI John Folan, says the initiative “has our full support” and promises “any relevant information passed through to Crimestoppers will be used to help track down and arrest those responsible.”
