Playing fields ‘important part’ of London

February 3, 2006 by Staff

Members of the Assembly have voiced concern at the implications of selling off playing fields.

Murad Qureshi AM who is leading the London Assembly’s investigation into the loss of the fields said:

“A very important part of the greenery in our towns and cities of the UK are our playing fields. So its not surprising that people get very worked up about their loss but the loss is not only applicable to school playing fields but also those owned by others parts of the public sector, private companies and voluntary organisations.

“Its for this very reason that the London Assembly Environment Committee is investigating London’s disappearing playing fields, investigating whether the national trend is applicable to London and going beyond just school playing fields and looking at those owned by private companies, other parts of the public sector and voluntary organisations as well.”
