Norris Not Running?

July 23, 2006 by Staff

Two-time Conservative Mayoral candidate Steve Norris has told GMTV that he would be prepared to “fall on my sword” and not stand again if asked to do so by David Cameron.

Mr Norris, who came second in both the 2000 and 2004 campaigns told the programme that he is “a huge supporter of David Cameron”.

“I like the way he is taking the party and I happen to think the drive to present a different kind of image of the party is absolutely what we need to do.”

Norris also predicted that “Livingstone will lose this time” adding “he is going to be quite vulnerable and particularly because Olympic costs over-run”

Commenting on his two defeats against Mr Livingstone Norris said “I think we all understood why he won the first time. Personally I understood why he won the second time but by a much reduced margin my vote went up an awful lot and his actually didn’t go up at all.”

Mr Cameron has previously announced that the party would give all registered voters in London a say in the selection of the 2008 candidate.
