Applications are being sought from Londoners interested in inspecting local police custody suites and ensuring detainees are treated fairly and with respect for their rights.

Independent Custody Visitors play an important role in holding the police to account on behalf of local communities.

Each week two visitors from a local panel make a random, unannounced visit to a police station to make an inspection and interview detainees in their cells.

Details of their visit are recorded and any concerns or failings raised with the police.

To maintain the independence of the Independent Custody Visitor scheme, those connected with the criminal justice system are barred from applying.

Details on how to apply can be found on the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime website.
