This is the first time the former Mayor has outpolled his successor since being named as Labour’s candidate last summer.
The YouGov polls shows that 45% of Londoners would vote for Livingstone against 43% for Johnson when asked how they’d vote “if there were an election tomorrow.”
The Liberal Democrats, who have yet to select a candidate, attract the backing of just 6% of voters.
Despite Livingstone’s lead in voting intentions, the YouGov poll reveals Boris Johnson is the choice of more Londoners when asked who they’d like to see elected at next year’s contest.
When asked “If you had to choose, who would you rather have as mayor of London, Boris Johnson or Ken Livingstone?” the positions are reversed with 45% naming Johnson and 42% Livingstone.
The result of this question highlights how important second preference votes are in the Mayoral elections.
