London’s firefighters have been issued with a brand new uniform, more than 10 years after their previous kit was introduced in 1999.

Each component of the new kit has been designed to integrate with each other and is “fully compatible” with existing breathing apparatus and chemical protection suits.

The new equipment has been heavily tested and has been ranked as the best of all kits tested by London firefighters involved in the tests against a number of criteria including mobility and vision.

The new kit is being supplied on a ‘fully managed’ basis by Bristol Uniforms under an agreement which will also see the firm provide personal guidance to firefighters where needed.

London Fire Commissioner Ron Dobson said: “We have taken advantage of the latest technology from an evolving and competitive market to purchase a replacement that is safe, light and comfortable.

The safety of our firefighters is of paramount importance and the new fire kit will meet the exacting standards demanded by the London Fire Brigade.”
