October 20, 2009 - Staff

met_vanLondoners are being urged to ‘Think Like a Burglar’ as the Metropolitan Police attempts to increase public awareness of crimes against property.

With official figures showing burglary is up by 9.7% on last year, the Met is re-launching its Operation Bumblebee awareness campaign with advice on how Londoners can can secure their homes and protect their property. Help and advice is available online at metbumblebee.org.

The force has announced that a ‘Bumblebee Task Force’ of eighty officers will work alongside boroughs to ‘enhance’ their work to tackle the most most prolific burglars.

Speaking on Monday Met Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson, said: “Burglary is a violation of people’s homes, a place where individuals and their families should feel safe and secure. That is why I have launched this targeted campaign to show that the Met tackles this head on and am pleased to see that we have made clear inroads with over 500 arrests in the last two weeks.”
