Met Boss Speaks to ‘The Londoner’ Newspaper

February 8, 2005 by Staff

Sir Ian Blair, recently appointed Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service, spoken to the Londoner newspaper about his commitment to making London the safest major city in the world.

In the interview he claimed it was “It is inevitable that terrorists will try to attack London – and
I say that because I know they have. But I also say that the Metropolitan Police is the world’s
most successful counter-terrorist force ”

The Commissioner said that “the way to defeat terrorism and the other men of violence is through the police knowing their community and being trusted by their community.” He also commented on the success of the Safer Neighbourhood police initiative: “Initial evaluation of the first 100 teams shows that we are seeing less burglary, less robbery, less auto-crime and less vandalism.
People say they are feeling safer, that they think there is less crime in their area, and that the level of policing is now about right.”
