Mayor Supports West End Development Plan

November 28, 2006 by Staff

Ken Livingstone today announced his support for the recommendations of an independent report which calls for a decade of development in London’s West End.

Mr Livingstone also called for the West End to be treated as London’s second business district after the City of London.

The report is published by the West End Commission which was formed by the Mayor and Chaired by Ian Henderson with the remit to look at the development of the West End’s shopping district and report back with recommendations.

Welcoming the report Mr Livingstone said he agreed with the emphasis placed on the importance of transport to the area including the proposed Crossrail project which would “add strength to the arguments I am making to Government.”

Livingstone also promised to “ask Transport for London to prepare a detailed response and action plan to address the issues raised in the Commission’s report.”

Delivering the report Mr Henderson said the Commission were “delighted” to have secured the full backing of the Mayor.

The West End Commission’s report is available on the GLA website.
