August 24, 2004 by Staff

Following Kelly Holmes’ spectacular victory in the Women’s 800 metre final yesterday, Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, has sent a message of praise and congratulation to Team GB medal winners who live, work, train in or have connections with the capital.

Commenting on the success of Team GB’s London Athletes the Mayor said:

“Kelly Holmes’s achievement last night was another fantastic win for Team GB and her West London club must, like all of us, be very proud. Team GB medal winners with London connections deserve the congratulations of the whole city for their superb achievements in becoming Athens medalists at this 2004 Olympic Games.

Thousands of Londoners have seen our sporting elite compete and succeed at the highest level of their discipline. Their hard work and success has brought pleasure and pride to London as well as to the rest of the UK.”
