February 14, 2007 by Staff

Mayor of London Ken Livingstone was joined by Zha Peixin, Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Yu Yunbo, Vice Chairman, CPPCC Shanghai Committee and Yin Minghua, President of the Jiefang Daily Group today to launch the Shanghai 360 exhibition.

The free exhibition forms part of China in London 2007, a celebration of one of the world’s great cities, and runs until 23 February at City Hall.

Speaking at today’s press launch Mr Livingstone said he was committed to ensuring a positive and cooperative relationship between London and Shanghai.

The Mayor also used today’s event to pay tribute to Ambassador Peixin who will shortly return to China and who Mr Livingstone said had played an “invaluable” part in developing relationships between London and China and in helping the GLA open offices in Beijing and Shanghai.

Later this week London will mark the beginning of the Chinese New Year with the annual celebrations in Chinatown, Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square including a Chinese New Year parade, staged and screened entertainment in Trafalgar Square, and the traditional firecrackers on Leicester Square.
