Mayor Ken Livingstone has condemned the murder of Londoner David Morley on Saturday. Mr Morley and a friend were attacked on the Hungerford Bridge in what the police are describing as a "homophobic" attack.
Speaking today, the Mayor said: "This was a vicious and cowardly attack and our thoughts are with David Morley’s family and friends. London’s lesbian and gay community, and visitors to the city, must be totally free of fear of hate crime.
The Metropolitan Police will have my full support in bringing the thugs who murdered Mr Morley to justice. I would urge anyone who might have any information to come forward and assist the police with their enquiries. Homophobic attacks will not be tolerated in this city and those responsible for this crime must be brought to justice."
