Mayor Announces 2nd Term Priorities

Ken Livingstone has announced his aims and priorities for his second term. Speaking today Mr Livingstone said: “The electorate were given a clear choice: better buses, more police, fifty per cent affordable housing, or back to cuts and under-investment. The result represents endorsement of continued investment, and the policies I have pursued over the last four years.”

The Mayor announced that he would immediately begin work in implement the Low Emission Zone and the introduction of free bus travel for Under-18s in full-time education.

He also announced the appointment of Nicky Gavron as Deputy Mayor and Val Shawcross as Chair of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority. Len Duvall has been recommended as the new Chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority.

Labour Peer Toby Harris previously served as MPA chair but lost his seat in last Thursday’s elections.

Livingstone also used the press conference to urge Londoners to great the Olympic flame as it passes through the capital on Saturday 26th June.
