Mayor and One London Respond to Eddington Report

December 1, 2006 by Staff

The One London Party today branded the plans for pay-as-you-drive road charges, “paying twice for what we’ve already overpaid for”.

The comments by party leader Damian Hockney come after news that Sir Rod Eddington’s recent study of Britain’s transport needs recommends nationwide road pricing, with charges of up to £1.35 a mile at peak times.

Hockney accused Eddington of being “the latest in a long line of government ‘business leaders’ wheeled out to put a thin pro-business spin on the government’s latest anti-enterprise initiative.”

Meanwhile Mayor of London Ken Livingstone said he welcomed Sir Rod’s recognition of “the business case for Crossrail, that it is vital for London’s economic success and that without it London’s congestion will get worse.”
