Boris Johnson has been accused of “insulting the intelligence of Londoners” after telling journalists he had unsuccessfully applied for tickets to next year’s Olympics.
On Wednesday the Mayor said his bid for tickets in the public ballot had failed, however a prominent member of the London Assembly said he had “access to every Olympic sport throughout the Games” and accused him of “mind blowing hypocrisy” in saying he hadn’t received any tickets.
The comments were made by Liberal Democrat AM Dee Doocey who has previously questioned the Mayor over his plans for City Hall’s allocation of around 500 tickets.
In response to a question tabled last month by Doocey, the Mayor has undertaken only to publish details external organisations or persons receiving the tickets “after the Games”.
Doocey has criticised the Mayor for “refusing to publish details before the Games start of how he would allocate hundreds of tickets” and accused him of “insulting the intelligence of Londoners to pretend that he will be just sitting on the sidelines.”
City Hall has previously confirmed that all tickets distributed from the allocation, which have to be paid for, will be funded by sponsorship.
