Matt O’Connor – English Democrat Mayoral Candidate (2008)

January 21, 2008 by Staff

The English Democrats have selected Fathers 4 Justice founder Matt O’Connor as their candidate in this year’s Mayoral elections, replacing Garry Bushell who has withdrawn due to work commitments.

Mr O’Connor says he’s spent the last 17 years living, working and campaigning in and around London and has just published his first book about his campaigning experiences ‘Fathers 4 Justice: The Inside Story’. A film about his life story is in development with Harbour Pictures, the producers of Calendar Girls.

He is perhaps best known for orchestrating stunts such as the powder-bombing of Tony Blair in the Commons and Batman on Buckingham Palace.

O’Connor says he’s “alarmed by the state of our political discourse and a democracy that is failing Londoners on such a spectacular scale. It is important that we create a new brand of politics that recognises the imbalance in the Union of the United Kingdom and places families and communities at the heart of it’s agenda.”

“27 teenagers died in last year in a bloody harvest of bullets and blades on the streets of our capital city. London is in breakdown – family and community breakdown – and I believe that as an agent for change, I can restore and repair our broken city.”

“I’m under no illusion that it’s a biblical task, but I’ve got one advantage already. I’m no politician.”
