Maloney Slams Livingstone Over Carnival

April 27, 2004 - Staff

UKIP Mayoral candidate, Frank Maloney has attacked ken Livingstone after he called for a re-routing of the Notting Hill Carnival to Bayswater Road and Harrow Road ending in Hyde Park.

Mayor Livingstone has claimed that “Every year there isn’t a fatality is a year we have been lucky”

In response Maloney said: “Livingstone is ripping the heart out of a community, every year there isn’t a fatality is not down to luck it is down to how well the event is organised and policed and shows how successful a traditional festival and the largest festival in Europe can be. This carnival is important to London life and Ken’s death threats are a load of crap.”

“This event should remain where it is in Notting Hill on the streets of London. Livingstone is trying to take over the festival and add it to his little empire. We already have numerous events in Hyde Park we don’t need anymore. The carnival was born on the streets and should remain on the streets to celebrate its 40th year. Leave it alone Livingstone, keep your grubby little mits off!”
