London’s next Mayor must build on Boris’s cycling legacy

I visited the new Go Dutch style cycle superhighways around Vauxhall with Jenny Jones, and I have to say we’re impressed.

After years working with cycling campaigners to lobby for safe and pleasant streets, the Mayor and TfL are finally delivering some really good infrastructure.

We heard about some tweaks TfL could make to reduce conflicts between cyclists, pedestrians and motorists, and I’ve written to the Mayor about these. But overall these cycle superhighways reminded me of cycling in Holland or Denmark, they’re brilliant.

As Boris Johnson comes to the end of his time in office, we have to see some real commitment from whoever follows him to roll this kind of quality infrastructure out all across London.
