London Marks International Women’s Month

London Mayor Ken Livingstone is marking International Women’s Month which starts tomorrow (1st March) with a free event for women in London.

Capitalwoman 2007 will be held at the Queen Elizabeth II conference centre and Central Hall Westminster on Saturday 3rd March 2007 and will bring together businesswomen, policy makers and opinion formers to discuss the position, strength and contribution of women in London.

Speaking today Mr Livingstone described the annual event as “an important opportunity to celebrate the contribution of women to London” adding he was looking forward “to the opportunity to update London’s women on the work of this administration to make travel at night safer and the updated London Domestic Violence Strategy.”

Speakers at the event will include Katharine Hamnett; Jo Brand (speaking on behalf of ActionAid); Dr. Vandana Shiva, Ecologist and author; Michelle Dewberry, Winner of The Apprentice 2006; Diane Abbott MP and Nicky Gavron, Deputy Mayor.
