London Mayor Ken Livingstone has joined calls for the release of BBC journalist Alan Johnston who was abducted in Gaza on 12 March.
Speaking after being interviewed on the Al Hiwar satellite TV channel Mr Livingstone said Alan Johnston was a unique witness for the mainstream western media about the extraordinarily difficult conditions facing the Palestinian population of Gaza.
The Mayor called Johnston’s reports “unbiased accounts of life in Gaza are unique and courageous contributions to the cause of peace in the Middle East”.
Mr Livingstone stressed that the removal of the voice of Alan Johnston “not only caused immense distress to his family and friends, but also does a great disservice to the people of Gaza by denying the world direct information on their plight.”
