Livingstone Congratulates Glasgow on 2014 Games

November 9, 2007 - Staff

Mayor of London Ken Livingstone has sent his congratulations to Glasgow on their selection as host city for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

In a statement issued today Mayor Livingstone said:

“This is a fantastic achievement. In winning the opportunity to stage one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events Glasgow like London, host city for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, can look forward to the huge benefits the Commonwealth Games will bring.

Celebrate today’s great news as Londoners did in 2005. I look forward to seeing your city transformed and regenerated and enjoy the sheer excitement of knowing that in just seven years time Glasgow will be the focus of the Commonwealth and the world who will see just what this great city has to offer.

I am sure there will be many opportunities for our cities to work together in preparations for 2012 and 2014.”
