LDA offers capital’s businesses language lessons

June 30, 2009 by Staff

The capital’s businesses are being urged to take up free training to improve the language skills of their staff ahead of the 2012 Olympics.

The London Development Agency is offering free training in language and cultural skills to help businesses welcome the expected surge in visitors to the capital.

Geoff Newton, Director of Olympic Opportunities at the LDA, said : “The spotlight will be on London so providing the best reception possible will help ensure that international visitors will return themselves and encourage others to visit. Helping London’s businesses to improve their offer is part of the LDA’s work to deliver an Olympic legacy now.”

Two courses will be available and a dedicated website – www.rln-london.com – will include downloadable business guides, case studies and cultural briefings.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “To win business and attract visitors through this huge opportunity means more than offering a warm welcome. We must also demonstrate that we are first rate communicators, to show we understand and empathise with their different needs. The training opportunities we are extending will be invaluable to all those businesses who are serious about taking on the overseas competition.”
