Labour’s candidate for Mayor Ken Livingstone says he would publish greater details about Transport for London’s contracts with suppliers and sponsors if elected next week.
In recent years TfL has entered a number of sponsorship deals with Emirates, Barclays and Virgin Media which the public and London Assembly Members have been denied details of.
AMs have previously complained about the lack of transparency and accountability surrounding such contracts while members of the public and media outlets have had FOI requests denied on the ground of commercial confidentiality.
Mr Livingstone told this site the contracts were being withheld “because it’s embarrassing for the present Tory Mayor” and suggested publishing more information could “strengthen competition” when contracts come up for renewal.
Candidates for Mayor include Jenny Jones (Green party), Ken Livingstone (Labour), Lawrence Webb (UKIP) Boris Johnson (Conservative) and Brian Paddick (Liberal Democrat). A full list of candidates can be found here.
