Jones to address clean air activists ahead of road ‘occupation’

July 12, 2011 by Martin Hoscik

Jones will address clean air campaigners on Wednesday
Jenny Jones, Green Party candidate in next year’s Mayoral elections, is to address clean air campaigners ahead of a protest which could see “some” central London roads “temporarily disrupted”.

On Wednesday Jones will deliver a speech to activists from environmental campaign Climate Rush in Soho Square before the group move on to an “unspecified location” where they plan to stage a ‘die-in’.

The group reportedly aims to occupy the unnamed location for 29 minutes, a period intended to symbolise the 29,000 premature deaths attributed to poor air quality in the UK.

In a statement Jones said: “Young, energetic campaigners like Climate Rush will ensure that clean air is a big priority during the Mayoral elections.

“The real test for Mayoral candidates is whether they can agree to take real action to reduce traffic, lower fares and create a very low emission zone which only allows the cleanest of vehicles to enter central London ”
