Johnson To Leave Parliament

Boris Johnson has confirmed he is to stand down as MP for Henley following his election as Mayor of London last month.

Speaking this morning at his City Hall press conference Mayor Johnson, who promised to stand down from Parliament if elected as Mayor, said the his new job was “simply too big” to allow him to continue representing Henley.

In his last appearance in the House of Commons Johnson asked PM Gordon Brown to john in him in congratulating London’s transport authorities in successfully implementing the ban on alcohol on the transport network.

Declared candidates in the Henley byelection include John Howell (Conservative), Richard McKenzie (Labour), Stephen Kearney (Liberal democrats), Mark Stevenson (Greens) and Chris Adams (UKIP).
