During the election Mr Livingstone said he would work with colleges and local authorities to re-introduce the allowance after it was cut across England by the national coalition Government.
At next week’s Mayor’s Question Time, the first since Johnson was re-elected for a second term, Labour London Assembly Member Jennette Arnold will ask Johnson to “use your influence as Mayor to bring together local authorities, London’s Colleges and Universities to investigate the re-introduction of an Education Maintenance Allowance for London’s 16-19 year olds who are struggling to stay in education”.
The Mayor will also be asked by Green and Liberal Democrat AMs to detail the action he has taken to implement the London Cycling Campaign’s calls for a new approach to planning roads which makes cycle use and safety the highest priority.
During the election Mr Johnson signed up to the LCC’s ‘Love London, Go Dutch’ campaign.
Tory AM Tony Arbour will ask the Mayor to “redouble” his efforts “to persuade the Government to introduce legislation to ensure that a strike ballot requires 50%+1 of eligible voters to support it in order for any subsequent strike to be valid”.
Ministers have previously suggested they do not support the Mayor’s calls for union reform.
In addition to questions tabled for oral answer AMs have also submitted questions for detailed written answer. These include a series of questions from LibDem Caroline Pidgeon about the Mayor’s recent WiFi deal with Virgin Media.
