Darren Johnson Chair of the London Assembly Environment Committee has atacked Goverment plans to back a large increase in the amount of incinerated rubbish.
In a statement released to the media Johnson said:
“I find it completely incomprehensible that Ministers would even consider such an idea let alone support it!
“What on earth is the point of hitting the EU’s tough targets on landfill and incinerating the waste instead? Where is the political creativity? Ministers should be pushing recycling and developing really imaginative ways to reduce the amount of waste in the first place, not burning it. With such ideas emanating from Whitehall, the UK hasn’t a hope in hell of tackling this huge issue – frankly, words fail me!”
